Our tailor made approach is increasingly in demand in public projects. In the London Studio, which is the biggest example of its type in Europe, we were brought in to work closely with the client, largely artists and designers themselves. We combined a highly functioning print facility and offices with a thirty metre long glazed public gallery onto the street. The result is a dramatically improved public profile for the London Print Studio, with an arresting building, which reaches out to the local community and caters for printmakers of all abilities.
A vital consideration in this project was its equal access facilities, and together with the client, we developed various systems to ensure flexibility and inclusiveness for as many as possible. 'Access by Design' says of the project, 'the ambition to design for people to create an inclusive environment is 'wired in' as a core philosophy'.
Many factors influence our approach, and these vary from project to project. As a starting point, we find out what our clients current and expected needs are. Also, the site or building, its context and the orientation of the sun; all play a role in generating the design. We always look to maximize the natural assets inherent in each project to achieve the very best solution.
